Jakarta, dpd.go.id — The Secretariat General of the House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (Setjen DPD RI) has made employee health a crucial part of the institution's investment in building healthy, productive, and optimally performing human resources. This commitment was realized through a Health Talk & Sharing Session themed "Maintaining Liver Health for a Healthier Life" featuring Gerry Permadi, an internal medicine specialist from Eka Hospital Depok, in the lobby of the DPD RI Building, Jakarta, Wednesday (2/9/2026).
The Secretary General of DPD RI, M. Iqbal, emphasized that employee health is inseparable from the strength and productivity of the organization. Therefore, the DPD RI Secretariat General is encouraging a more preventative approach by increasing employee awareness of health risk factors, including obesity and fatty liver.
"I see employee health as part of the institution's investment. Fatty liver is directly proportional to overeating and a desire to be sedentary. Therefore, I entrust that every work unit conduct data collection, especially for employees who are categorized as obese, so that they can then be given guidance and encouraged to participate in sports activities for the benefit of employee health," said M. Iqbal.
This directive is part of the DPD RI Secretariat General's efforts to build a healthy lifestyle culture that goes beyond education and translates into concrete actions in the workplace. A preventative approach is deemed essential to foster greater employee awareness of their physical condition and encourage them to make lifestyle changes before more serious health issues arise.
In his presentation, Gerry Permadi explained that fatty liver disease is associated with the accumulation of fat in the liver and is closely linked to obesity and metabolic disorders. This condition requires attention because it can present with minimal symptoms in the early stages.
"Fatty liver disease is not only related to what we eat, but also to how active we are. Maintaining a healthy weight, adopting a healthy diet, exercising regularly, maintaining cholesterol levels, and avoiding alcohol are all important parts of maintaining liver health," said Gerry.
This education reinforces the DPD RI Secretariat General's efforts to build health awareness as part of employee well-being. Through an interactive forum, participants gained an understanding of risk factors, the importance of early detection, and lifestyle changes that can be implemented consistently in their daily lives.
Emirianti, Head of the DPD RI Primary Clinic, stated that the activity is part of the institution's commitment to expanding access to health education and strengthening prevention efforts. She noted that metabolic health issues often go unnoticed due to the lack of symptoms in the early stages. "Early detection and treatment are crucial through laboratory tests, radiological examinations such as ultrasound and fibroscan, and follow-up examinations according to the patient's condition," Emirianti said.
Emirianti explained that efforts to maintain metabolic health need to be comprehensive and continuous, particularly through weight control, adopting a healthy diet, and regular physical activity. Ideal weight loss can also be beneficial in improving various metabolic risk factors related to liver health.
In the session, participants also gained an understanding of the relationship between fatty liver and diabetes, which can exacerbate metabolic conditions. Gerry emphasized that these risks can be prevented and controlled through early detection and consistent lifestyle changes.
"Prevention is always crucial. Don't wait until symptoms arise to start taking care of your health. By recognizing risk factors and making lifestyle changes early, we can maintain liver health and improve our quality of life," Gerry said.
The Secretariat General of the DPD RI believes that developing a healthy lifestyle is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the quality of human resources. DPD RI Secretary General M. Iqbal believes a healthy work environment will positively impact productivity and the quality of institutional task implementation.
"We want DPD RI Secretariat General employees to not only be healthy while working, but also to be aware of maintaining their health as part of their lifestyle. Healthy human resources are the strength of the institution, and therefore we must continue to encourage efforts like this," said M. Iqbal.
Iqbal conveyed this during the inauguration of the DPD RI Polyclinic, which is now a Prima Clinic, meeting standards. The upgrade of the DPD RI Pratama Clinic was carried out amidst demands to comply with Ministry of Health regulations requiring all healthcare facilities to meet accreditation standards. Efforts to meet these standards include improving facilities and infrastructure, as well as various other preparations, so that the DPD RI Pratama Clinic can provide increasingly high-quality healthcare services.
