Leading PBNU, LaNyalla Optimistic Gus Kikin Can Meet the President's Expectations

Jakarta, dpd.go.id - Member of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) representing the electoral district of East Java, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, welcomed the election of KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz (Gus Kikin) as General Chair of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU).

The senator from East Java regards Gus Kikin as the right figure to answer President Prabowo Subianto's expectations regarding the strengthening of NU's historical and economic role for the nation.

In his closing speech at the 35th NU Congress in Jombang, President Prabowo expressed high hopes that NU would continue to be a determining factor for national stability and peace, while working in synergy to realize prosperity and justice that reach the grassroots level.

LaNyalla emphasized that Gus Kikin's profile, which combines the capacity of a religious scholar and an entrepreneur, is highly relevant for translating President Prabowo's grand vision into concrete organizational work.

"The President's expectation that 'there is no prosperity without justice,' along with the strong drive to empower the Islamic boarding school network, finds its momentum under Gus Kikin's leadership. Given his background, PBNU will become increasingly solid in safeguarding economic justice and ensuring that public welfare programs are distributed evenly throughout all corners of the country," LaNyalla stressed on Monday (31/8/2026).

This optimism is based on Gus Kikin's track record, leadership capacity, and strategic contribution, which feature deep roots in religious traditions combined with an entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated during his time as an official of the East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) from 2000 to 2013.

“Gus Kikin also consistently advocates messages of peace, prioritizes brotherhood, and shows absolute deference to the noble values of senior scholars. This nurturing posture reinforces NU's position as an anchor of reconciliation accepted by all parties,” said the 5th Speaker of the DPD RI.

At the conclusion of his statement, the member of the Advisory Board of KADIN Indonesia reaffirmed his readiness as a regional representative in the DPD RI to maintain strategic synergy with the new PBNU leadership.
