The Speaker of DPD RI Follows Up on Indonesia-Russia Cooperation, Encourages Collaboration in Education and Culture

dpd.go.id, Jakarta — Cooperation between Indonesia and Russia continues to be pushed to produce more concrete programs, particularly in the fields of education, culture, and scientific development. This was conveyed by the Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, during a visit by Russian Federation Senator Ilyas Umakhanov at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (August 20, 2026).

The meeting was a follow-up to the visit of the Speaker of the DPD RI and his delegation to Russia last April, which resulted in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Indonesia and the Russian Federation.

Sultan stated that the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss several programs that could be immediately implemented, including plans for reciprocal visits and strengthening cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.

"We will facilitate the cooperation agreed upon with the relevant committees, particularly in the fields of education and culture. Russia is also a popular destination for Indonesian youth to study. Therefore, we need to continue to promote cooperation in education and scientific development," said Sultan.

According to Sultan, strengthening educational cooperation is not only important in opening access for Indonesia's young generation to education in Russia, but can also provide a space for the exchange of knowledge, technology, and experience between the two countries.

Russian Federation Senator Ilyas Umakhanov welcomed the meeting. He stated that his visit was a follow-up to the DPD RI Speaker's visit to Russia, which he considered successful and productive.

"Today's visit is a follow-up to the very successful and productive visit by the Chairman and his delegation to Russia last April. During that visit, we signed a memorandum covering various areas of cooperation between Russia and Indonesia," Ilyas said.

In addition to education and culture, Vice Speaker of the DPD RI Tamsil Linrung said that cooperation between the two countries has the potential to be developed in a number of strategic sectors, such as railways, nuclear technology, and aviation technology.

"Some areas we can specifically focus on include railways, nuclear technology, and aviation technology. Overall, this collaboration has already been proposed, and we just need to see how it proceeds," said Tamsil.

Sultan added that DPD RI is also ready to encourage regional involvement in developing Indonesia-Russia cooperation. According to him, this opportunity is increasingly open with the establishment of sister city partnerships between several cities in Indonesia and Russia.

"We will also propose regions with potential for development through cooperation with Russia. The DPD RI will continue to support and strengthen this cooperation, not only in education and culture, but also in various fields that can benefit the regions," the Sultan concluded.

Sultan emphasized that strengthening Indonesia-Russia relations needs to be directed toward cooperation that provides concrete benefits for both the community and the regions. The DPD RI will continue to play a role in bridging regional interests with international cooperation opportunities that can support national development.
