DPD RI DIY Promotes Community-Based Food Security through Integrated Agriculture.

Yogyakarta, dpd.go.id — Vice Speaker of the DPD RI, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas, appreciated the urban farming innovation carried out by the Swa Katon Asri Farmers Group. The first integrated farming harvest with the theme "KETAPANG MAS: Community-Based Food Security Towards a Golden Indonesia" at the Pendopo Paguyuban Sumarah, Wirobrajan, Yogyakarta City, Friday (25/9/2026) utilized limited urban land to create food independence. GKR Hemas and Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo had the opportunity to directly harvest agricultural products in the form of rice planted in used gallon media.

In her remarks, GKR Hemas emphasized that food security can begin at the smallest level, including households. She believes that communities can play a role in utilizing the potential and resources available in their respective communities. "This can serve as an example that you don't actually need land in rice fields or gardens; you can have it at home or in your yard. So, it can be used for household needs. This is crucial for empowering communities regarding food security. As the President stated, every province, district, and city must promote the cultivation of crops for public consumption," GKR Hemas said.

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Yogyakarta, the Chairperson of the Yogyakarta City DPRD, the Yogyakarta Special Region Agriculture and Food Security Service, the Yogyakarta City Agriculture and Food Service, the Wirobrajan Forkopimcam, the Wirobrajan Village Government, farmer groups, and the local community.

Meanwhile, Hasto Wardoyo also emphasized that integrated agricultural development can be directed towards sustainable integrated farming programs. Agricultural development at the community level can also benefit households, particularly in helping to meet some food needs and maintain family economic stability.

"Hopefully, this isn't the first or the last, but rather the beginning of an activity that can later be developed into a sustainable integrated farming program," said Hasto Wardoyo. On this occasion, GKR Hemas also gathered the aspirations of the community in attendance. A number of concerns were expressed, including agricultural development, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and agricultural training.

One of the members of the Swa Katon Asri farmer group, Muharjo, said that initially this farmer group only planted vegetables for three years.

"Initially, our farming group only grew vegetables. We've collaborated extensively with various parties to start this integrated farming system, from preparation to implementation. Perhaps we can also provide training assistance to further advance it in the future," he explained.

In response to these aspirations, GKR Hemas expressed her support for the development of an integrated farming program for community food security. GKR Hemas hopes that the development of integrated farming can continue, involving the community and various stakeholders, so that its benefits can be felt sustainably, both in supporting food needs and empowering the community's economy.***
