Gorontalo, dpd.go.id – Member of the Regional Legislation Committee (BULD) of the House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Syarif Mbuinga, initiated the consolidation of the "Prosecutors Guard Teachers" Program with the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) of Pohuwato Regency in a discussion forum held at SMK Negeri 1 Popayato, Pohuwato Regency, Thursday (23/07). This activity is the first step in building synergy between the world of education and law enforcement officials in providing legal protection for educators.
"Teachers play a strategic role in educating the nation. Therefore, the state must ensure that teachers can carry out their duties professionally and safely through legal education and strengthened coordination with law enforcement," said Syarif Mbuinga.
The activity was part of Syarif Mbuinga's working visit in the context of implementing the BULD DPD RI function regarding the harmonization of laws and regulations in the field of education services in Gorontalo Province.
In his remarks, Syarif explained that the "Prosecutors Protect Teachers" program was created in response to the various legal issues faced by educators in carrying out their duties. He noted that many teachers face legal complaints due to disciplinary actions or learning processes that are actually carried out as part of their professional responsibilities.
Therefore, preventive measures through legal education are needed to ensure teachers understand the limits of their authority, rights, and obligations as stipulated in laws and regulations. Furthermore, good coordination with law enforcement officials is expected to prevent the criminalization of teachers who carry out their duties professionally and with good intentions.
Syarif emphasized that the "Prosecutors Protect Teachers" program is not intended to provide legal immunity to educators, but rather to build legal understanding, strengthen prevention mechanisms, and create a space for constructive communication between teachers and law enforcement officials.
"This program aims to build legal understanding from an early age so that every problem can be resolved proportionally. Teachers must have legal certainty and protection in carrying out their duties, but at the same time, students' rights must also be protected," he stressed.
Syarif hopes that the synergy between the Indonesian Teachers' Association (PGRI), local governments, educational institutions, and the Attorney General's Office can strengthen a safe, fair, and conducive education ecosystem. He believes that legal certainty for educators is a crucial factor in improving the quality of educational services and supporting the development of superior Indonesian human resources.
Through this discussion forum, various inputs from teachers will become material for DPD RI in carrying out its legislative and supervisory functions, particularly regarding the improvement of regulations that provide legal protection for educators without neglecting the best interests of students.
