Supporting Social Media Restrictions for Children, Sultan: So the Government's MBG Efforts Don't Go to Waste

dpd.go.id – The Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, stated that his party fully supports the government's efforts through the Ministry of Communication and Digital to restrict social media use for children under 16 years old.

According to him, limiting children's access to social media is relevant to the President's agenda for improving the quality of Indonesia's human resources, achieved through programs ranging from Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) to educational scholarship programs (PIP), and others.

"It feels futile when the government makes a serious effort to pay attention to improving the brain and physical quality of children through MBG, for example, but at the same time, we allow them to access social media freely," Sultan stated in an official release on Sunday (08/03).

The former chairman of HIPMI Bengkulu revealed that social media currently contains a high volume of content that can actually damage a child's mindset and mental development.

"Therefore, we also encourage the Government to increase supervision and firmly sort out sensitive and non-educational content circulating on social media," he asserted.

Furthermore, the former Vice Governor of Bengkulu reminded parents and the community of their supervisory role regarding these government policies.

"Parents and the social environment must ensure that the golden age of growth from childhood through adolescence is filled with positive literacy and physical activities," he concluded.

As is known, the Government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital, has recently signed the Minister of Communication and Digital Regulation (Permen Komdigi) Number 9 of 2026. This serves as a derivative of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Management of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).
