Bang Azran Rescues Jakarta Residents: Cambodian Job Scam Victims Repatriated

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Member of the DPD RI/MPR RI representing the DKI Jakarta constituency, Achmad Azran (Bang Azran), who also serves as the General Chair of DPP FORKABI, has assisted in the repatriation of Bintang Amelia Nengsih (20), a North Jakarta resident who fell victim to a job scam and became trapped in Cambodia.

Bintang’s ordeal stemmed from her family’s financial hardship. She was forced to drop out of school and seek employment to support her parents and younger siblings. In her testimony, Bintang recalled seeing her siblings survive on plain, dry rice for days on end due to economic constraints. Driven by this desperate situation, she accepted a job offer from a friend for what was presented as employment in Taiwan.

"I dropped out of school because of our financial situation and wanted to help my parents. At that time, my younger siblings had no food or snack money. They were eating plain, dry rice for a whole week. I couldn't bear to see them like that," Bintang shared via WhatsApp messages with Achmad Azran's staff.

Determined to aid her family, Bintang applied for a passport and departed. However, her dream of working in Taiwan turned into a nightmare. It was only upon arriving overseas that she realized she had been taken to Cambodia instead.

"I thought I was really going to Taiwan, but I was suddenly brought to Cambodia. I was furious because I felt tricked. I was naive back then and didn't know any better," Bintang said in her WhatsApp message.

Bintang attempted to resign from the company and return to Indonesia. However, her request was met with a 35 million IDR fine. Unable to pay the penalty, she was forced to continue working until the company premises were eventually raided, giving her the chance to escape. During her escape, her passport remained confiscated.

Upon learning of her plight, Bang Azran stepped in to ensure her full repatriation. He covered all expenses for her accommodation, transport, airport pickup, and supporting needs throughout the repatriation process. Bintang is scheduled to be picked up at the airport on August 14, 2026, and escorted back to her family in Jakarta.

"She is a North Jakarta youth, she is our child too. She left with a simple intention: to help her parents and younger siblings. When someone like her gets trapped in a situation like this, we must step up. The top priority now is saving Bintang and ensuring she returns home safely," Bang Azran stated.

Bang Azran highlighted that Bintang's story reflects how young people with pure intentions to help their families can fall prey to criminal schemes disguised as overseas job opportunities.

"Bintang didn't leave to seek pleasure. She left so her family could afford decent meals. Good intentions like hers must not be exploited by irresponsible individuals. InsyaAllah, we will oversee this until she is safely back home," Bang Azran affirmed.

For Bintang, returning to Jakarta is more than just leaving Cambodia. She longs to return home to her mother and younger siblings, who were her primary motivation for braving work abroad.

"I am deeply grateful to Bang Azran for helping me. From the beginning, I just wanted to come home because I was scared and didn't know what to do. I just want to go back home and be with my parents and siblings," Bintang said.

She shared that her greatest wish after surviving the ordeal in Cambodia was to embrace her mother.

"I want to go home. I want to see my mother and family. I left in the first place to help them, especially my younger siblings. Now all I want is to be reunited with them," Bintang said.

Bintang expressed hope that no other young people seeking overseas employment to support their families would suffer a similar fate.

"I hope no one else goes through what I did. I only wanted to work and help my parents, but I was taken somewhere completely unknown. Thank you for giving me hope to finally return home," she concluded.(*)
