Distributing Sanitation Supplies, Bang Azran Urges Residents to Strengthen the Culture of Sorting Waste at Home

Jakarta, dpd.go.id — Member of the DPD RI/MPR RI representing the DKI Jakarta electoral district, Achmad Azran, affectionately known as Bang Azran, who is also the General Chairman of DPP FORKABI, urged the public to build the habit of managing and sorting waste starting from home. This message was delivered during an environmental awareness activity held in RW 03, Setu Sub-district, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, on Sunday (August 23, 2026).

During the event, Bang Azran handed over trash bins to residents to support household waste processing and sorting. The donation is expected to encourage the community to accustom themselves to sorting waste at its source so that organic and inorganic waste can be managed more effectively.

Bang Azran stated that the waste problem cannot be left entirely to the government. According to him, success in maintaining environmental cleanliness depends heavily on public awareness to start with simple actions, particularly sorting garbage at home.

“Do not view the waste issue solely as the government’s business. We all share this responsibility. If waste sorting starts at home and is practiced consistently by the public, the impact on environmental cleanliness will be immense,” said Bang Azran.

In addition to the distribution of trash bins, the activity featured a symbolic tree planting ceremony as part of a joint commitment to environmental preservation. Bang Azran believes environmental initiatives must be carried out sustainably and involve every element of the community.

“A clean and green environment is not just for us today, but also for our children and future generations. Therefore, movements like this must become a habit, not merely a ceremonial event,” he stated.

On the same occasion, Bang Azran presented awards to residents recognized for demonstrating outstanding initiative and practice in household waste sorting. One of the award recipients was Drs. H. Suprayogi, who received recognition in commemoration of the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia for the best waste sorting practices at the Setu Sub-district level, Cipayung District, East Jakarta.

According to Bang Azran, presenting the award serves as a form of appreciation for residents who have set a concrete example in preserving environmental cleanliness. He hopes this step will motivate other residents to follow suit.

“What we are appreciating is not just who has the cleanest space, but the spirit and role-modeling of residents in keeping their surroundings clean. Hopefully, more residents will be inspired and become examples for their surrounding neighborhoods,” Bang Azran said.

As the General Chairman of DPP FORKABI, Bang Azran also emphasized that environmental care is a shared responsibility of all Jakarta residents. According to him, taking care of one’s neighborhood (kampung), keeping it clean, and nurturing the environment are concrete manifestations of caring for one's living space and community life.

He expressed hope that the activity would not end with distributing trash bins, planting trees, or handing out awards, but would continue as an active movement at the neighborhood level (RT and RW).

“It begins at home, with the family, and then spreads to neighbors and the wider community. If this culture takes root, we will not only resolve the waste issue, but also build a community that cares more deeply about the environment,” Bang Azran concluded.(*)
