dpd.go.id - Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), stated that Indonesia’s outermost, frontier, and underdeveloped (3T) regions represent the nation’s image to neighboring ASEAN countries. He expressed appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s recent visit to Miangas Island, one of Indonesia’s frontier territories.

“The President has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving basic infrastructure for communities living in the archipelagic regions. Frontier and outermost areas, particularly island regions, deserve greater attention from the State,” Sultan said in an official statement on Sunday (May 10).

Sultan further explained that the DPD RI is currently discussing the Archipelagic Regions Bill with the Government and the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI). According to him, the bill is urgently needed to strengthen legal support for the development and advancement of regions such as Miangas Island, located in Indonesia’s northernmost territory.

“We need the Archipelagic Regions Bill as an inclusive policy framework that reflects Indonesia’s identity as an archipelagic nation. Through this legislation, the fundamental needs of communities in island regions can be addressed in a more planned, integrated, and comprehensive manner,” he emphasized.

The former Deputy Governor of Bengkulu also noted that dozens of island clusters, home to millions of Indonesians, still require greater attention and stronger state support.

“President Prabowo’s visit to Miangas Island sends a positive signal for the acceleration of the Archipelagic Regions Bill. We hope the House of Representatives will soon pass this long-awaited legislation, which has been proposed for decades,” he concluded.
