Jakarta, dpd.go.id - The Speaker of the House of the Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, said that the development of nuclear power plants (PLTN) to meet Indonesia's electrification needs is quite promising amidst the challenges of the fossil energy crisis.

This was conveyed by the Sultan when receiving a visit from the Director General of the Russian Federation Atomic Agency, Rosotom, in the delegation room of the DPD RI Leadership in Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday (13/05).

According to him, nuclear energy is a clean, efficient energy source for the future that is in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement and Indonesia's net zero emission.

"We welcome and thank the Russian government for its sincere offer of cooperation in developing nuclear energy with Indonesia," said the Sultan to Rosotom Director General Mr. Alevsy Lickchachev and his entourage.

The DPD RI, said Sultan, welcomed and strongly supported the cooperation between the Indonesian and Russian governments, including President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin, in all areas, particularly energy. This was particularly true in the drafting of the new renewable energy bill.

"Nuclear energy is excellent for an archipelagic nation like Indonesia, but we face challenges and need time to educate the public. Nuclear energy is quite sensitive, and it's something new in Indonesia," he stressed.

In the warm meeting, Director General of Rosotom Alexsy enthusiastically explained the potential and strategy for developing nuclear power plants by Rosotom, both technically and in terms of financing schemes.

"Thank you, we are honored by your welcome and the opportunities for cooperation that we will develop. We are pleased that the Chairman of the DPD RI has frequently discussed the potential of nuclear energy with the Russian Federation Ambassador and the Rosotom representative in Indonesia," he explained.

President Putin's confidant in the nuclear energy development agenda said that his party wanted to immediately start practical nuclear power plant cooperation between Russia and Indonesia.

"We know that Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world, so Indonesia's economic potential continues to grow, requiring large amounts of energy. Energy is like the lifeblood of the economy."

We also know that the Speaker of the DPD RI, Sultan, pays special attention to the development of green energy potential.

"We believe that Indonesia is an archipelagic nation capable of meeting its energy needs independently. Indonesia needs a stable and sovereign energy source to avoid dependence on global energy," he said.

"Our first proposal," Alexis continued, "is to place floating nuclear power plants in several regions of Indonesia. Yesterday, I conveyed this to President Prabowo, and he has already given the order to PLN. We have met with PLN."

"Therefore, we need to collaborate with the DPD RI to socialize nuclear energy to the Indonesian people," he concluded.
