dpd.go.id Nabire – Vice Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) for People's Welfare, Yorrys Raweyai, paid a strategic working visit to the Korem 173/Praja Vira Braja (PVB) Headquarters in Nabire on Wednesday (3/3). He was received directly by the Commander of Korem 173/PVB, Brigadier General I Ketut Mertha Gunarda.

This meeting is not merely a formal visit, but rather a concrete step by the DPD RI to ensure that the acceleration of development and improvement of community welfare in Central Papua Province are in line with security stability on the ground.

In his statement, Yorrys emphasized that the presence of the DPD RI in the Korem 173/PVB area aims to collect objective data and facts regarding crucial issues in the region.

"We are here to listen directly, not just to receive reports at our desks. Synergy with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), particularly Korem 173/PVB, is vital because the TNI's role in Papua is not only to safeguard sovereignty but also to empower communities in remote areas," said Yorrys Raweyai.

Some of the main points that were the focus of discussion during the visit included:

  • Development Acceleration: Ensuring that national and regional strategic projects in Central Papua run without technical or social obstacles.
  • People's Welfare: Reviewing the extent to which government social programs impact the economic lives of local residents.
  • Regional Stability: Appreciating the role of the TNI in creating a conducive climate for investment growth and community activities.

Yorrys added that the DPD RI's current national agenda is to ensure that voices from vertical institutions like the TNI are properly channeled to the central level. He believes the TNI has its own perspective on development challenges in Central Papua.

Responding to this, Brigadier General I Ketut Mertha Gunarda expressed his staff's readiness to continue collaborating. He emphasized that Korem 173/PVB is always ready to synergize with all government elements to create a prosperous society and ensure security and stability.

This visit is an integral part of the DPD RI's work to ensure that the expansion of Central Papua Province truly has an impact on indigenous communities and the local population. All aspirations gathered from this meeting will be brought to the central level for follow-up with the relevant ministries.

"Central Papua is the future. With synergy between the legislative body and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), we are optimistic that sustainable development will no longer be mere talk, but a reality that can be felt by all the people," Yorrys concluded.
