Senator Mirah Calls Padel Exhibition at Porprov a Milestone for the Birth of High-Achieving Athletes in NTB

Mataram, dpd.go.id – Member of the DPD RI for the Electoral District of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and Chairperson of the NTB Province Indonesian Padel Executive Board, Mirah Midadan Fahmid, expressed his appreciation for the holding of the padel sport as an exhibition event at the NTB Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) (25/07).

"The presence of padel at the largest provincial sporting event is a strategic step to strengthen athlete development and expand the competitive sports ecosystem in the region," said Mirah.

This statement was made by Senator Mirah when attending the opening of the NTB Porprov padel exhibition, which was also attended by the Chairperson of the NTB KONI, Mori Hanafi, the ranks of the NTB Province Indonesian Padel Management, athletes, coaches, and sports activists.

Senator Mirah emphasized that the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) is not merely an inter-regional competition, but rather a crucial foundation for developing high-achieving athletes who can later bring honor to NTB at the national and international levels. Therefore, every sport that demonstrates positive development needs to be given the space to grow through a sustainable development system.

"Exhibition status should not be viewed as a lower position. Instead, this is a starting point to demonstrate that padel has a strong organization, potential athletes, a robust competition system, and growing public support. This is an important step toward recognition as an official sport at the upcoming Porprov," said Senator Mirah.

According to her, the development of padel in recent years has shown a very encouraging trend. This sport is gaining popularity in various countries, including Indonesia, because it offers dynamic, competitive gameplay and is accessible to all age groups.

In NTB itself, the growth of the padel community and the increasing number of people who are starting to get to know the sport are indicators that padel has great prospects for development.

"We must welcome the public's enthusiasm with appropriate development policies. We must not let this development become just a fad. We must establish a clear development pathway, from communities, clubs, competitions, and ultimately, developing high-achieving athletes," she said.

Senator Mirah also appreciated the commitment of the NTB Province Indonesian Padel Management in making the Porprov exhibition the first step in building a sustainable competition calendar.

According to her, the success of a sport is not only measured by the number of participants in the competition, but also by consistency in coaching, athlete regeneration, and improving the quality of the competition.

She hopes that through this exhibition, potential athletes from all districts and cities in NTB will emerge who will be able to compete at the national level.

Besides being a platform to measure athletes' abilities, competitions also serve as an evaluation space to develop more targeted coaching programs based on real needs in the field.

Senator Mirah advised the competing athletes to use every match as a learning tool and to build character.

"Winning and losing are part of the process. The most important thing is to uphold sportsmanship, respect your opponents, and continuously improve your skills. You are a pioneering generation paving the way for the future of padel in West Nusa Tenggara," she said.

Furthermore, Senator Mirah emphasized that sports progress cannot be achieved by organizational administrators and athletes alone. Strong synergy is needed between the local government, the NTB National Sports Committee (KONI), the Indonesian Padel Association (PB Padel Indonesia), the business world, the sports community, and the community to ensure sustainable sports development.

"Collaboration is key. When all stakeholders work together, I am optimistic that NTB will not only be able to produce accomplished padel athletes but also become a region to be reckoned with in the development of padel in Indonesia," concluded Senator Mirah.*
