Middle East Tensions Heat Up, Bang Azran: Jakarta Must Remain Calm and United Amid Global Tensions

dpd.go.id JAKARTA - Responding to the development of the international situation regarding the attacks carried out by Israel and the United States against Iran, Member of the DPD RI/MPR RI for the DKI Jakarta Electoral District, Achmad Azran, who is familiarly called Bang Azran, invited the people of Jakarta to remain calm and maintain unity amidst the developing global dynamics, Monday (2/1/2026).

Bang Azran emphasized that every international conflict certainly attracts the world's attention, but the public does not need to overreact in responding to the situation.

"I urge all Jakarta residents to remain calm and not be provoked by the various information circulating on social media and other platforms. The international situation is indeed heating up, but Jakarta must remain a safe, peaceful, and brotherly home," said Bang Azran.

The Betawi native emphasized that Indonesia consistently adheres to the principle of an independent and active foreign policy and prioritizes diplomacy in addressing every conflict between countries.

"Since its inception, our nation has always encouraged conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. The principles of humanity and peace are foundations we must never abandon. Let's protect Jakarta. Jakarta is our hometown," he stressed.

According to Bang Azran, as a global city and center of national activity, Jakarta must demonstrate maturity in addressing international issues. "Jakarta is a national barometer. We must demonstrate calm, maturity, and solidarity. We must not let global dynamics trigger unrest or division at the local level. Especially in this holy month of Ramadan, we must hold hands as one," he continued.

Bang Azran also reminded of the importance of maintaining social and economic stability so that community activities can continue to run normally.

"People can continue their activities as usual. The government is, of course, closely monitoring the situation. What we need to do is maintain order, strengthen solidarity, and refrain from spreading information that is not necessarily accurate," he said.

In the final section, Bang Azran highlighted the heating up of the Middle East as a momentum to strengthen collective awareness of the importance of world peace.

"This news in the Middle East is a reminder to us all that armed conflict always has widespread humanitarian impacts. We are certainly concerned about the escalation. However, as residents of Jakarta and as members of the Indonesian nation, our best response is to pray for a swift easing of tensions and to ensure that our beloved city remains safe, orderly, and harmonious," Bang Azran concluded.(*)
