Irman Gusman Holds Coordination Meeting with Governor Mahyeldi to Discuss Accelerating West Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Funds

Padang, dpd.go.id – Indonesian Senator from West Sumatra, Irman Gusman, invited the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, along with officials from the West Sumatra Provincial Government, to discuss accelerating post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction (rehab rekon).

The meeting, held at Suaso Resto in Padang on Tuesday (July 21, 2026), focused on a coordination meeting to evaluate the progress of rehabilitation and reconstruction, identify various obstacles in budget disbursement, and formulate acceleration steps through synergy between the regional and central governments.

During the meeting, which was accompanied by lunch, the former two-term Speaker of the DPD RI emphasized that accelerating rehabilitation and reconstruction must be a shared agenda. According to him, all obstacles causing the slow implementation of the program need to be comprehensively mapped out so that the solutions chosen are truly targeted.

"The most important thing right now is to fully understand where the problem lies. If the barrier is in regulations or mechanisms within the ministry, we must address it immediately so that there is a way forward," Irman asserted.

Meanwhile, Governor Mahyeldi who was accompanied by the Head of Bappeda (Regional Development Planning Agency), Executive Head of BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency), Head of the Department of BMCKTR (Marga Cipta, Spatial Planning, and Settlement Infrastructure), Head of the Department of SDABK (Water Resources and Conservation), Head of the General Affairs Bureau, Head of the Executive Bureau (Adpim), and Head of the Environmental Office expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Irman Gusman’s initiative in convening the meeting to help accelerate solutions to various post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction issues in West Sumatra.

Furthermore, Mahyeldi explained that the West Sumatra Provincial Government continues its efforts to speed up the execution of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction.

The Head of West Sumatra Bappeda, Zefnihan, explained that the central government has allocated an additional Transfer to Regions (TKD) of approximately IDR 534.99 billion to support post-disaster recovery. However, to date, the disbursement realization has only reached around 7.8 percent because it is still constrained by several regulations and mechanisms in the relevant ministries.

It is noted that as of mid-July 2026, the realization of the additional TKD in West Sumatra has only reached around IDR 204 billion, or 7.8 percent.

"Therefore, we continue to coordinate with the central government so these various obstacles can be resolved immediately, enabling the allocated budget to be fully utilized to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction in West Sumatra," added Mahyeldi.

During the meeting, Mahyeldi also handed a official letter to Senator Irman Gusman requesting his assistance in advocating to the central government so that the realization of TKD funds to the West Sumatra Provincial Government can be expedited. Responding to this explanation, Irman Gusman noted that relaxation of several regulations currently hindering the budget distribution process is necessary.

As a concrete step, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DPP Ikatan Keluarga Minang (IKM) proposed the formation of a task force team assigned to draft a comprehensive study regarding the various constraints in disbursing the rehabilitation and reconstruction funds. The findings of this study will later serve as a foundation to advocate for solutions at the central government level.

"The people of West Sumatra should not have to wait too long for the rehabilitation and reconstruction process," added the Chairman of the Board of Economic & MSME Experts at Central Executive Board (PP) Muhammadiyah.

Furthermore, Irman encouraged relevant ministries and agencies to immediately realize the rehabilitation and reconstruction programs planned for Fiscal Year 2026. "Because the planning is already in place, what is needed now is accelerated implementation so the public can quickly feel the benefits," he emphasized.

Through synergy between the regional government, DPD RI, and the central government, it is hoped that the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction process in West Sumatra can be accelerated so that the public gains certainty as soon as possible, Irman concluded.
