Irman Gusman Appreciates the Minister of Home Affairs for Pushing the Accelerated Disbursement of an Additional Rp 6 Trillion Budget for Sumatra's Recovery

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Senator from West Sumatra, Irman Gusman appreciated the steps taken by Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian in pushing for the accelerated disbursement of an additional budget of approximately Rp6 trillion to support post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in the Sumatra region.

According to the former two-term Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), accelerating the disbursement of the additional budget is an urgent necessity, as it represents the hopes of the public and local governments to speed up post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatra.

"Efforts to accelerate the disbursement of this budget are worthy of appreciation. Communities in affected areas need swift action so that the recovery process can begin immediately and economic and social activities can return to normal," Irman said in a written statement on Tuesday (July 28, 2026).

Previously, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, during a meeting with Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa at the Ministry of Finance Office on Monday (July 27), requested that the additional budget of around Rp6 trillion for four ministries be approved promptly.

The budget is considered urgent to accelerate post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction across various regions in Sumatra.

The additional funding is allocated as follows: around Rp2.6 trillion for the Ministry of Agriculture to repair damaged rice fields and plantations; around Rp 1.5 trillion for the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries to restore shrimp and fish ponds; Rp 4.8 trillion for the Ministry of Religious Affairs to repair affected Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), madrasahs, and places of worship; and around Rp 600 billion for the Ministry of MSMEs to assist in the recovery of small business operators.

Tito emphasized that these four sectors are priorities that require immediate budgetary support.

Furthermore, Irman Gusman assessed that the additional budget is fundamental and serves as a vital instrument because it targets sectors that sustain community livelihoods.

"We hope the approval and disbursement process for this budget can be carried out as quickly as possible so that the central and local governments can move faster in executing rehabilitation and reconstruction. Most importantly, the entire budget must be well-targeted, transparent, and genuinely bring benefits to the affected communities," said the member of Committee I of the DPD RI.

Irman added that good coordination between the central government, local governments, and relevant ministries will be a crucial factor in ensuring that the rehabilitation process runs effectively and that the benefits of the budget can be felt immediately by the people in affected regions.

The Chairman of the Board of Experts on MSME Economics for the Central Executive Board of Muhammadiyah emphasized that agriculture, fisheries, religious education, places of worship, and MSMEs form the foundation of community life.

"Therefore, budgetary support for these sectors will deliver a broader and greater impact on accelerating regional recovery," he concluded.
