GKR Hemas Wins Leading Women Awards 2026

Jakarta, dpd.go.id - GKR Hemas, Vice Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) for Regional Autonomy, Politics, and Law, received the 2026 CNN Indonesia Leading Women Awards for Outstanding Leader in Public Advocacy and Representation. This award was given for her steadfastness in championing public issues in a sustainable and principled manner, as well as her consistent advocacy for strengthening the role of regions, empowering women, and preserving cultural values within a modern democratic system.

Responding to the award, GKR Hemas expressed her gratitude and continued dedication.

"I am very grateful to CNN Indonesia and the judges for this recognition. This award is not just for me personally, but for all Indonesian women who are fighting for justice and equality in their respective regions," she said in a brief speech after the event.

Furthermore, the senator from the Special Region of Yogyakarta emphasized that public advocacy must be based on local values and support for grassroots communities.

"I believe true advocacy comes from listening directly to citizens' concerns, not from closed meeting rooms. Therefore, I will continue to advocate that regional voices are never drowned out by centralized policymaking," he stressed.

GKR Hemas also highlighted the importance of women's empowerment as the spearhead of social change. When one woman speaks out for the public interest, she opens the door for hundreds of others to do the same. "This award is a reminder that we still have a long way to go," she added with emotion.

The 2026 Leading Women Awards, held in Jakarta, was attended by several national and public figures. GKR Hemas concluded her statement with a message for the younger generation, especially young women who aspire to become involved in advocacy and politics.

"Don't be afraid to start small. Consistency and integrity will ultimately speak louder than mere title or popularity. Keep learning, keep moving, and never stop fighting for what's right," concluded GKR Hemas.
