DPD RI Strengthens Electricity Supervision in Yogyakarta, Highlighting Equitable Services in Special Geographical Areas and the Readiness of the Electric Vehicle Ecosystem

Yogyakarta, dpd.go.id – Member of Committee II of the House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) for the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Dr. H. Hilmy Muhammad, M.A. emphasized that DIY is generally in good electricity condition, but still requires special attention on a number of strategic issues. This affirmation was conveyed by the man who is also the Secretary of the Syuriyah of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) while leading the monitoring activity for the implementation of Law Number 30 of 2009 concerning Electricity and its amendments, which was held together with PT PLN (Persero) Yogyakarta Main Distribution Unit (UID), Wednesday (29/7/26).

During the meeting, Gus Hilmy, as he is familiarly known, highlighted several strategic issues of concern to DPD RI. These included ensuring equitable distribution of electricity services in areas with specific geographic characteristics, such as the Gunungkidul karst region and the Menoreh Mountains; ensuring the readiness of the electricity system to cope with the increasing use of electric vehicles and the growth of the tourism sector; and ensuring the speed of handling electricity service disruptions to the public.

"The electrification ratio in the DIY Province as a whole is already at a very high figure (approaching 100%), with an even distribution across various regencies/cities such as Sleman, Bantul, Kulonprogo, and Gunungkidul. However, PLN needs to commit to handling specific areas with difficult geographical characteristics, such as the karst hills in Gunungkidul Regency and the northern area of Kulon Progo Regency which borders the Menoreh Mountains," said Gus Hilmy in the meeting room of the PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) Yogyakarta office.

Responding to the issues raised by Gus Hilmy, PT PLN UID Yogyakarta, represented by General Manager Dery Prasetya Utomo, presented several data points as input for the DPD RI. The electrified village ratio in Yogyakarta has reached 100 percent, and the electrification rate has reached 99.81 percent, with power reserves deemed sufficient to meet community needs and regional economic activity.

PLN also stated that the expansion of electricity access continues through the Village Electricity Program (Lisdes), accompanied by the provision of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) and Home Charging Services to support the electric vehicle ecosystem in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

"The focus is on providing better and better electricity services to the people of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, so that the mandate of Law Number 30 of 2009 can truly be felt by all people in the Special Region of Yogyakarta," said Dery.

PLN also outlined the challenges it still faces, including network development in several areas and the need for investment in new and renewable energy. Following the DPD RI concern about speedy disruption response, PLN stated it has established a rapid response communications team and optimized monitoring of public reports through the PLN Mobile app.

In connection with the DIY Regional Government (Pemda) program, Gus Hilmy encouraged PLN to be willing to support the Malioboro Street area program which is fully pedestrianized (free from oil-fueled motorized vehicles).

"We want to propose that the Yogyakarta Regional Government is willing to rejuvenate TransJogja buses with electric buses. At the same time, we hope that PLN will be willing to provide the necessary support," said Gus Hilmy.

Responding to this, Dery stated that PLN is ready to support the Yogyakarta Regional Government's program. He explained that there are various schemes to accelerate the procurement of electric buses, including a unit rental system.

Gus Hilmy emphasized that all input gathered from PLN will serve as material for the DPD RI in its oversight of the implementation of Law Number 30 of 2009 concerning Electricity. He hopes the synergy between the DPD RI and PLN will continue to promote increasingly reliable, equitable, and high-quality electricity services for the people of Yogyakarta.*
