DPD RI Speaker Refers to China as Indonesia's Elder Brother

JAKARTA, INDONESIA — The Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, has praised the role of the Chinese government and business community, calling their contributions highly essential to Indonesia's economic development.

The remarks were made by the former KNPI activist during his keynote speech at an event that coincided with the celebration of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) anniversary, held in Kuningan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (July 15).

"First of all, we would like to congratulate the Chinese Communist Party on celebrating its 105th Modernization Day. The phenomenal leap in China's economic achievements is the result of the hard work of both the Chinese government and its people," Najamudin stated.

According to Najamudin, China represents one of the great civilizations that has profoundly influenced the course of human history.

"In every aspect, especially in the economic sector, Indonesia must learn from China specifically on how to develop superior human resources, expand productivity, and reduce poverty," Najamudin emphasized.

He noted that it is no surprise that 14 centuries ago, Prophet Muhammad instructed believers to "seek knowledge, even unto China."

"The Indonesian and Chinese nations share genetic connections. China is Indonesia’s elder brother. For centuries, our nations have established and nurtured trade cooperation," Najamudin concluded.
