DPD RI Push the MBG Program to be Accountable and Strengthen the Regional Economy

Jakarta, dpd.go.id - The Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, emphasized that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program is a strategic investment in human resource development and an instrument for strengthening regional economies. Therefore, its implementation must be accountable, targeted, and reach all regions of Indonesia equally.

At the 11th Plenary Session of DPD RI, Sultan stated that DPD RI is paying significant attention to the implementation of the MBG as a national priority program. He stated that the program's implementation must be tailored to geographic, social, and cultural characteristics, as well as local food potential, particularly in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

"The Free Nutritious Meal Program must reach all regions of Indonesia equitably. Its implementation must also take into account the conditions and potential of each region so that its benefits are truly felt by the community," said Sultan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/7).

Sultan emphasized that the success of this program requires strong synergy between the central and regional governments. Furthermore, increasing the capacity of service providers and involving MSMEs, cooperatives, farmers, and fishermen in the food supply chain are crucial factors in ensuring the program's economic benefits are widely felt.

"Involving local food businesses and producers not only strengthens the supply chain but also opens up opportunities for regional economic growth and improved community welfare," he explained.

DPD RI also encourages the government to conduct regular evaluations of program implementation, both in terms of improving children's nutritional status, reducing the prevalence of stunting, improving the quality of student health and learning, and its impact on the economic empowerment of local communities.

"With ongoing evaluation and monitoring, we hope the MBG program will not only meet the nutritional needs of beneficiaries but also become an instrument for equitable development and strengthening the local economy," Sultan concluded.
