dpd.go.id JAKARTA – Committee III of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) has officially initiated strategic steps to conduct in-depth oversight of the implementation of the duties and functions of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI). This step was taken following the discovery of several crucial issues deemed to be hampering the progress of national sports achievements at both the central and regional levels.
Based on initial findings, Committee III of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) noted systemic challenges within the national sports ecosystem. Key points highlighted included inter-institutional coordination, funding mechanisms, athlete protection, and synchronization of high-performance sports development programs between the central and regional governments.
"Several studies have shown a gap between the legal norms stipulated in the law and the implementation practices in the field," said the Chairperson of Committee III of the DPD RI, Filep Wamafma, during a Hearing with the Central KONI regarding the Inventory of Supervisory Materials for the Implementation of Law No. 11 of 2022 concerning Sports at the DPD RI Building, Jakarta, Monday (20/4/26).
In line with the mandate of Government Regulation No. 46 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of Sports, Committee III of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) views the oversight function as a vital instrument. This oversight is not merely a bureaucratic routine, but rather an effort to ensure an integrated and results-oriented national sports system. "This activity is aimed at generating evidence-based policy recommendations," explained Filep.
Responding to the spotlight, Deputy Chairman I of the Central KONI, Suwarno, explained that his organization continues to strive for acceleration despite limitations. "We are currently honing all sports branches, and we are also continuously seeking breakthroughs from 50 to 81 sports," he explained.
As a breakthrough to accommodate athletes' potential, he continued, KONI has prepared a series of major events for 2026, including the National Martial Arts Games (PON) in October and the Beach Games (PON) in November. "We continue to seek innovations to accommodate existing sports. However, the biggest challenge is the readiness and availability of support from the provincial government. This synchronization is what we need to strengthen together," Suwarno explained.
On the same occasion, Denty Eka Widi Pratiwi, a member of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) from Central Java Province, emphasized the importance of regional heads' commitment to supporting the PON. She stated that the central and regional governments must work together to ensure the readiness of the host nation for the sporting event, particularly in terms of infrastructure.
"We need to encourage the central and regional governments to be more serious. Sometimes we don't know the extent of infrastructure readiness at the host level. Furthermore, athlete support must also be carefully considered, especially regarding budget allocation in the regions," he concluded.
Echoing this sentiment, Aji Mirni Mawarni, a member of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) from East Kalimantan Province, expressed particular concern about the fate of the luxurious sports facilities built for the PON. She lamented that they ended up abandoned after the event. "I also deeply regret the many sports facilities that were abandoned after the PON. This is happening in various regions and must be seriously evaluated," she stressed.
