DPD RI and the Ministry of Hajj Evaluate Hajj Implementation, Health Eligibility Becomes Priority

JAKARTA, dpd.go.id - The health aspect of Hajj pilgrims has become one of the main focuses in the evaluation of the 1447 H/2026 M Hajj pilgrimage. To ensure continuous improvement in the implementation of the Hajj, Committee III of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) held a working meeting to oversee the management of the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages alongside the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (29/6).

The First Vice Chairperson of Committee III of the DPD RI, Dailami Firdaus, expressed his appreciation for the improved quality of this year's Hajj implementation. However, he noted that several areas still require evaluation, particularly regarding the implementation of istithaah (health eligibility/fitness) standards for prospective pilgrims before their departure to the Holy Land.

"We appreciate the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for improving the quality of the Hajj management. However, there are still a few notes, specifically regarding the optimization of istithaah health implementations while still paying attention to the needs of the pilgrims," Dailami stated.

Dailami emphasized that the consistent application of health istithaah is key to ensuring that pilgrims can perform their worship safely and optimally while in the Holy Land.

A similar sentiment was shared by Anna Latuconsina, a DPD RI member from Maluku. She argued that pilgrim health should not be viewed merely as an administrative matter, but rather as a vital component of Hajj readiness.

"The primary issue in organizing the Hajj is the health readiness of the pilgrims. Istithaah does not only concern financial capability but also physical health conditions. Therefore, the selection process must ensure that pilgrims are truly capable of performing the Hajj," Anna said.

She added that strengthening the health screening process needs to be a priority to minimize health risks during the pilgrimage.

Responding to the various inputs, the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Gus Irfan, assured that the government will make the health aspect one of the main priorities for future Hajj improvements. Evaluations will be conducted across the board, from the medical screening process to the quality of healthcare services provided to the pilgrims.

"We will tighten the implementation of health istithaah for the upcoming Hajj season, accompanied by improvements in healthcare services and evaluations of medical check-ups, particularly in the regions, to ensure that pilgrims truly meet the health requirements," Gus Irfan emphasized.
