dpd.go.id Banda Aceh — Senator of the DPD RI from Aceh, Darwati A. Gani, personally visited authorities to monitor the handling of an alleged child abuse case at a daycare center in Banda Aceh. She visited the Women and Children’s Protection Unit (PPA) of the Banda Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Department on Thursday, April 30, 2026, to ensure the legal process is handled seriously and provides justice for the victim.

During a meeting with investigators, Darwati emphasized the importance of transparency in handling the case. She requested that the police clearly uncover whether this incident was an isolated occurrence or if it had been going on for some time.

"We want to know the progress of this case, whether this is the first time or if it has been recurring but only just came to light. There must be no negligence, especially when it involves the safety of children," she stated.

The Head of the Banda Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Commissioner Miftahuda Dizha Fezuono, explained that the case was uncovered after information circulated on social media on April 27, 2026. The police moved to the location the following day to secure the involved parties.

"In less than 24 hours, we conducted a case review and named three caregivers as suspects," he said.

From the preliminary investigation, police found that the alleged abuse occurred on several different dates, specifically April 22, 24, and 27, 2026.

"One suspect has been detained, while the process for the others is ongoing. We are also investigating the possibility of other victims," he added.

Investigators also acknowledged limitations regarding CCTV footage at the scene. Currently, accessible recordings only cover the last seven days. Therefore, the police are conducting further analysis, including digital forensics, to trace the possibility of previous incidents.

Following the visit to the PPA Unit, Darwati met with the Banda Aceh Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Andi Kirana. During the meeting, the Police Chief stated that there are strong indications that the violence was repetitive.

"From what we have seen in the field, there are indeed strong indications of violence against children. This is evident from the videos circulating. However, based on existing facts, this was not a one-time occurrence. There are indications it happened repeatedly," said Senior Commissioner Andi Kirana.

He emphasized that the case would not be settled through mediation or "peaceful" out-of-court settlements and will be processed according to the law.

"We guarantee there will be no peaceful settlement. The legal process will continue to provide a deterrent effect," he asserted.

Currently, the police are also investigating the operational legality of the daycare center, as well as the possibility of elements of negligence or intent.

At the conclusion of her visit, Darwati called on all parties to continue monitoring the case until it is fully resolved.

"We want everyone involved to be processed legally. This must serve as a lesson to strengthen child protection," she concluded. []
