Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Maluku Senator Anna Latuconsina has called on the public to reject the normalization of violence against women through a book discussion on Arung Jeram Pernikahan (Marriage Rapids), a book she published in 2024. She said the book serves as a space for reflection to help build healthy relationships and prevent various forms of violence, particularly within marriage.
According to Anna, the stories featured in the book are inspired by real-life situations that frequently occur in society. She hopes the book will encourage readers to reflect on their relationships and evaluate how they interact with their partners.
"Marriage begins with love, but a lasting marriage requires love to grow and evolve through the commitment of both partners. Through this book, I hope readers will reflect on their own relationships and gain a better understanding of what can be improved to make them healthier and stronger," Anna said during her remarks at the DPD RI Lobby in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (July 14, 2026).
Anna explained that each story in the book deliberately ends without a definitive resolution. Through this approach, she aims to encourage readers to reflect on the realities of married life from managing conflict to building and sustaining healthy relationships. She emphasized that such reflection is essential, as many women continue to face challenges within their households, including violence that often goes unnoticed or is overlooked by those around them.
"Women, mothers, and children have the right to live in a safe and healthy environment. Ensuring that right is not only the responsibility of the state, but a shared responsibility for all of us," she stressed.
