2026 Economic Census and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (KEM-PPKF) for the 2027 Draft State Budget, Committee IV of the DPD RI Encourages Strengthening of BPS to Strengthen Regional Statistical Data

South Tangerang, dpd.go.id - Committee IV of The House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) conducted a Working Visit and meeting with the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of Banten Province and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of South Tangerang City on June 10, 2026, to emphasize the importance of strengthening the quality of regional statistical data as a foundation for the preparation of the Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Principles (KEM PPKF) of the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) and preparations for the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026). During the meeting, the Chairperson of Committee IV DPD RI along with the central and regional BPS officials conveyed several strategic points related to data accuracy, information security, and challenges in field data collection.

The Chairperson of Committee IV of DPD RI, H. Ahmad Nawardi, emphasized that statistics are a state instrument whose independence must be maintained. "Statistics must be neutral and data-based, and must not be influenced by political elements," he said. He also highlighted the importance of mitigating the risk of cyberattacks, both domestic and international, and emphasized the need for manual data backup to maintain the sustainability of statistical services.

Deputy Chair of Committee IV of DPD RI, Novita Anakotta, emphasized that BPS data is the primary reference in compiling the macroeconomic indicators for the KEM PPKF. The senator from Maluku questioned whether there would be any changes in methodology given changing public behavior and urged BPS to strengthen statistical literacy, similar to the OJK's approach to financial literacy.

The Deputy for Balance Sheet and Statistical Analysis at BPS, Moh. Edi Machmud, emphasized BPS's commitment to maintaining data quality and supporting the preparation of the KEM PPKF. He explained that BPS has strengthened data security through coordination with the National Standardization Agency (BSSN) and has prepared a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in South Kalimantan as a data recovery center in the event of a disaster. "BPS is committed to maintaining data quality and continuing to strengthen synergy between ministries/agencies," he said.

The Head of the Banten Province Statistics Agency (BPS), Yusniar Juliana, explained that statistical data serves as the government's compass in formulating evidence-based policies. However, she acknowledged that there are still sectoral data disparities, respondent resistance, and challenges in updating data in some regions. BPS Banten is currently developing Small Area Estimation (SAE) and Big Data to produce more precise thematic statistics.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) for South Tangerang City, Agung Erianto Juliandono, highlighted the characteristics of the South Tangerang region, which is supported by the real estate, trade, and industrial sectors. He explained that data collection faces challenges, particularly for apartment residents and mall tenants who require a high level of privacy. "We remain committed to educating respondents about the importance of data collection," he said.

This working visit provides a crucial opportunity to strengthen BPS's role as the national data guardian and ensure that the 2027 KEM PPKF is based on accurate, inclusive, and secure regional data. Committee IV of the DPD RI reaffirmed its commitment to continuously overseeing improvements in the quality of statistical data across all regions.
