Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) Sultan Baktiar Najamudin and Commander of the Indonesian Army Special Forces Command (Kopassus), Lieutenant General Djon Afriyandi, will collaborate to implement the Indonesian Army’s Large-Scale Community Service Program (Karya Bakti Skala Besar/KBSB) in Bengkulu Province.
The initiative was discussed during an intensive meeting between the two Bengkulu-born leaders at the DPD RI Chairman’s office in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (29 September).
“The presence of Kopassus Commander Lieutenant General Djon Afriyandi this morning was aimed at coordinating and strengthening collaboration in the implementation of the KBSB program. Kopassus has been tasked with and needs to play an active role in accelerating poverty alleviation efforts in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T),” Sultan told members of the media.
Regarding the role of the DPD RI, Sultan said that the institution would coordinate with all relevant stakeholders, particularly ministries and government agencies, to collaborate in implementing the KBSB program.
“The Indonesian Army and the DPD RI fully understand that many basic needs of communities have yet to be adequately addressed by the state. At the same time, regional governments are facing budget constraints,” he stressed.
Therefore, he continued, the Indonesian Army, through Kopassus, is committed to pursuing innovative community service initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and quality of life of people in the regions through the KBSB program.
Meanwhile, Kopassus Commander Lieutenant General Djon Afriyandi explained that the KBSB program covers the construction of bridges and irrigation networks, the drilling of bore wells, cataract surgery operations, and other forms of community assistance. These programs are based on public aspirations collected through the Military District Commands (Kodim), Military Resort Commands (Korem), and Military Regional Commands (Kodam).
“We need to be involved in development efforts in underdeveloped areas and regions affected by disasters because what communities in 3T regions and disaster-affected areas need most is speed and effectiveness,” he concluded.
