The Speaker of the DPD RI, Sultan Supports the President's Neutral Stance on the US-Iran Conflict

Jakarta, dpd.go.id - Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, expressed his support for President Prabowo Subianto's views and stance on the current conflict between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

"A neutral stance toward the conflicting parties is a manifestation of the Indonesian nation's free and active diplomatic policy. As a nation, we must respect the views, attitudes, and decisions of our national leaders," said Sultan after attending the Nuzul Qur'an night commemoration at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta (10/03).

According to him, historically Indonesia was the initiator of the Non-Aligned Movement amidst the confrontation between two global powers.

"We fully understand and fully support President Prabowo's wise diplomatic stance, which is in the interests of the nation and state. The President strives to maintain good relations with all countries," he stressed.

The DPD RI, said Sultan, appreciates President Prabowo's move to express his condolences for the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"Of course, the President's condolences represent the entire Indonesian nation to the Iranian nation," said the former Deputy Governor of Bengkulu.

As a Muslim-majority country, he said, we naturally empathize with our brothers and sisters affected by the war in Iran. However, we also respect the interests and foreign policies of other friendly nations.

"In principle, the President wants to prioritize an independent, active, and non-aligned foreign policy. Because all conflicting parties are good friends of Indonesia," he concluded.

In his official statement, President Prabowo Subianto said that Indonesia adheres to the principle of an independent and active foreign policy amidst increasingly complex global conflict dynamics.

The President made the statement on Monday (9/3/2026) on the sidelines of the hybrid inauguration of 218 bridges via video conference in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java.
