Jakarta, dpd.go.id – To commemorate its 22nd anniversary, the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) once again organized a blood donation drive as a tangible expression of its commitment and service to the public. Carrying the theme “A Drop of Blood, a Million Hopes: DPD RI Cares for Others,” the event was held in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) at the DPD RI Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (October 8, 2026).
DPD RI Speaker Sultan B Najamuddin said that blood donation is a simple act of empathy that can make a profound difference in another person's life. He expressed his appreciation to the Secretary-General of DPD RI and staff, as well as the PMI, for supporting the event.
“On behalf of the DPD RI leadership and institution, we extend our appreciation to the Secretary-General of DPD RI and staff, as well as the PMI. When we give a drop of blood, we are actually giving something immensely valuable to another person,” Sultan said.
He emphasized that the 22nd anniversary of DPD RI should serve as an opportunity to reflect on the extent to which the institution's presence delivers tangible benefits to communities and regions. DPD RI contributes not only through its legislative, oversight, and advisory functions, but also through concrete actions that make a meaningful difference in people's lives.
“We must mark DPD RI's 22nd anniversary by reflecting on how much our institution's presence is felt across the regions. Our contribution goes beyond institutional duties; it also includes social initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to the public,” he said.
Sultan stressed that blood donation should be developed into a lasting tradition and a regular DPD RI agenda. The initiative will be implemented gradually across all 38 DPD RI offices in provincial capitals. These regional offices are expected to serve not merely as liaison offices, but also as coordination hubs connecting local governments, the business community, and the public.
“Last year, we emphasized that blood donation must not stop here, but instead grow into a tradition. DPD RI must take the lead in making blood donation a regular agenda, carried out consistently and with a firm commitment year after year,” he affirmed.
He noted that the collaboration with PMI demonstrates that state institutions do not have to work alone to benefit the public. The DPD RI Speaker also expressed his gratitude to all donors for taking the time to donate blood for people they might never even know.
“We believe this simple initiative can foster a culture of compassion, mutual cooperation, and collaboration for humanity. The greater a state institution becomes, the more it should be able to give back to the nation. May the drop of blood donated today give someone else another chance at life,” he said.
On the occasion, Deputy for Administration at the DPD RI Secretariat-General, Lalu Niqman Zahir, explained that the blood donation drive aimed to promote social awareness and humanitarian values, help the PMI maintain an adequate blood supply for the public, and strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation within DPD RI.
A total of 200 prospective donors had registered, representing DPD RI leadership and members, officials, employees, and supporting personnel.
“The organizing committee is working with the PMI in accordance with applicable health procedures. As of now, 200 people have registered as prospective donors,” he said.
According to Lalu, the donation process includes registration, verification, health screening, blood donation, post-donation observation and rest, as well as refreshments and the distribution of vouchers. Medical personnel from the PMI have full authority to determine whether participants are medically eligible to donate blood.
He also expressed his appreciation to the DPD RI leadership, the PMI, the Sabang Merauke Cooperative, and all other parties that had supported the initiative.
“Thank you to all donors who have taken the time to contribute their blood for others. This is more than just a social activity; it is a tangible expression of the spirit of caring for others, which will continue to grow within the DPD RI family. Let us make DPD RI's anniversary an opportunity to serve and share,” he said.
Meanwhile, PMI Deputy Chairman General (Ret.) Nanan Soekarna commended DPD RI for supporting the blood donation drive. He described the initiative as a genuine demonstration of compassion amid the busy schedules of DPD RI's leadership, members, and staff.
“Every drop of donated blood represents hope for someone to recover and continue living. We extend our appreciation and gratitude to the DPD RI leadership and staff for taking part in this humanitarian initiative,” Nanan said.
He added that PMI's services extend beyond blood donation to include disaster response and strengthening community resilience. These efforts are guided by PMI's seven fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
“If every Indonesian became a PMI volunteer, communities would be better prepared to participate in disaster response, even before the PMI arrives,” he concluded.
