Receiving the KWP Award Again, DPD RI Speaker Sultan: Journalists are Fellow Comrades-in-Arms

dpd.go.id – The Speaker of the House of Regional Representatives (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, has once again been honored with the 2026 Parliamentary Journalists' Coordinator (KWP) Award in the category of "Parliamentary Leader as the Initiator of Green Democracy."

This is not his first recognition from the group. At the 2023 KWP Awards, Sultan, who was then serving as Vice Speaker of the DPD RI, received an award in the category of "Critical Pro-Democracy Senator."

Sultan stated that the 2026 KWP Award holds significant meaning for the collaboration between parliamentary institutions and the press as a primary pillar of democracy.

"We must express our gratitude to our colleagues at KWP as our comrades-in-arms. This awarding ceremony is a positive sign that Indonesian democracy is growing and blossoming," said the former Vice Governor of Bengkulu after receiving the award on Thursday (16/04).

Sultan further emphasized that Parliament and journalists must continue to work hand-in-hand to safeguard the democratic process and achieve national goals.

"We appreciate and thank the parliamentary journalists for their willingness to monitor, record, and disseminate the work of Parliament members, particularly within the DPD RI," he remarked.

With this prestigious and meaningful award, Sultan noted that the DPD RI will continue to strive to maintain public trust and honor the moral support provided by the KWP in carrying out constitutional duties.

"We hope that KWP will become a pioneer among press institutions in guarding Indonesia’s constitutional democracy by consistently maintaining journalistic integrity amidst digital information disruption," he added.

He concluded with a poignant reflection on the interdependence of the two institutions: "Without professional journalists, democracy would certainly be chaotic and paralyzed. Without proportional oversight from Parliament, democracy would be blind."
