Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Vice Speaker of the DPD RI GKR Hemas assessed that the speech by the Speaker of the DPD RI Sultan Baktiar Najamudin and the speech by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI was an important momentum to reaffirm the national development's support for the regions.

According to GKR Hemas, the message of "Strong Regions, Sovereign Indonesia" delivered by the Speaker of the DPD RI is in line with the direction of national development which requires strong synergy between the central and regional governments.

"The DPD RI Speaker's speech emphasized that Indonesia's true strength rests on regional strength. Therefore, national development must not neglect the regions. Policies made at the central level must truly benefit the public," said GKR Hemas after a Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026).

GKR Hemas also appreciated several emphases in President Prabowo Subianto's speech regarding national independence, equitable development, strengthening the people's economy, and supporting the community. She believes these agendas need to be translated concretely down to the regional level.

"The most important thing is how national policies are translated into concrete programs in the regions. The public must feel the presence of the state, whether in education, health, the economy, infrastructure, or public services," he said.

The Struggle of the Island Regions Must Be Monitored

GKR Hemas paid special attention to the inclusion of the Archipelagic Regions Bill in the 2026 Priority National Legislation Program. She called this an important development following a long struggle by the House of Regional Representative (DPD) with the island communities.

"This is a momentum we must safeguard together. The Archipelagic Regions Bill is not only in the interests of the archipelagic regions, but also part of an effort to ensure equitable development within Indonesia as an archipelagic nation," he said.

He hopes that the discussion of the bill will produce regulations that affirm the characteristics and needs of island regions.

"People in island regions must not continue to face inequality due to geographic conditions. The state must be present and provide fair policies tailored to the characteristics of each region," GKR Hemas emphasized.

GKR Hemas emphasized that the DPD RI will continue to carry out its regional representation function by ensuring that the aspirations of people from various regions of Indonesia become part of national policy.

"The House of Regional Representative (DPD) must continue to ensure that the voices of the people from Sabang to Merauke are heard at the national level. We must be present to ensure that state policies truly address the problems of the people in the regions," he said.

He hopes that the synergy between the central government, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), the House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) and regional governments will become stronger in implementing the national development agenda.

"If the central and regional governments work together, Indonesia will become stronger. Because ultimately, strong regions are the foundation of a sovereign Indonesia," concluded GKR Hemas.**
