dpd.go.id Yogyakarta – Vice Speaker of The House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), GKR Hemas, together with Member of the DPD RI of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Hilmy Muhammad, handed over an NS-150 water pump to the “Nggayuh Rejeki” Horticultural Farmers Group of Sendangsari Village, Minggir Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Saturday (28/2). The handover of the aid was carried out symbolically in the local agricultural area and was attended by the Forkompimkap of Minggir Subdistrict, representatives of the village government, community leaders, and members of the farmer group.

In her remarks, GKR Hemas emphasized that agriculture is the foundation of food security and the backbone of rural economies. The availability of irrigation water is a determining factor in successful production, especially in the face of increasingly unpredictable climate change and seasonal shifts.

"I received a report from Gus Hilmy regarding your aspirations, particularly the need for water pumps and ditch diggers. Your needs must be conveyed. Utilize the four DPD RI members according to their respective committees," GKR Hemas emphasized.

She also expressed his appreciation for the management of productive land in Sendangsari, which has been utilized for cultivating papaya and other horticultural commodities. She believes the growing number of young farmers is a crucial asset in maintaining the sustainability of the village's agricultural sector.

"Hopefully, this pump will expand our land, not just for papaya cultivation. But also for anything with a high market value that can improve the welfare of the wider community and alleviate poverty," said GKR Hemas.

This assistance follows up on the farmers' aspirations previously conveyed to Hilmy Muhammad. In his report to GKR Hemas, Gus Hilmy stated that the local farmers' group needed two main pieces of equipment to support productivity: a water pump and a ditch digger. He emphasized that this assistance was a concrete manifestation of the community's aspirations.

"Today, we can follow up on what the Sendangsari community has said. They have quite a lot of fallow land (uncultivated land), and they need water pumps and agricultural equipment to address the water shortage. Approximately 5.5 hectares of land have been addressed with the water pumps," he said.

He added that as a member of the House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), he fulfills his regional representation function by championing community aspirations at the central level. He also serves on Committee II of DPD RI, which oversees agriculture.

Also present at the event was the Head of Minggir Sub-district, Dewanto Tri Nugroho, who stated that there is a close relationship between food, agriculture, stunting, and public health issues.

He believes that increasing agricultural productivity will directly impact family food security and community nutritional quality. "With the assistance of this water pump, hopefully, we can increase productivity and reduce problems in Sendangsari Village," he said.

With all that support, it is hoped that the agricultural sector in Sendangsari Village will continue to develop, productivity will increase, and have a real impact on the economy and health of the village community.*
