dpd.go.id - JAKARTA, March 18, 2026: Hostility, let alone war, should not occur between Muslim countries during the holy month of Ramadan. This month is a month of mercy that should be lived in a peaceful atmosphere of forgiveness, fostering friendship, and strengthening bonds of brotherhood. Therefore, war between Muslim countries is a deeply regrettable tragedy and must be ended immediately.
This was the response of the Speaker of the DPD RI, Sultan B. Najamudin, today, March 18, 2026, when he responded to the war that is still raging in Iran, where Arab countries have become the targets of missile and drone attacks from Iran.
The Sultan said that the attacks on Arab countries had not only targeted US military assets but also damaged airports, residential areas, economic assets, and various buildings belonging to civilians who were not involved in the war that had been going on since February 28, 2026, and with no known end date.
The Arab countries affected by the attacks include Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, and Jordan; and these countries have so far remained restrained, because they do not want the conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel to escalate and plunge the West Asian region into prolonged instability.
"Moreover, both the attackers and those attacked in the Arabian Peninsula are fellow member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which should be united in creating stability in the region," said the Sultan.
"Therefore, it is time to end this war so that Iran and the Arab countries can reconcile and build prosperity, rather than continue to be hostile. Because hostility between Muslim countries will only benefit other parties who want to continue to divide unity while fishing in troubled waters," the Sultan warned.
The Speaker of the DPD RI added, "As a friendly country to Iran, we urge the Iranian government and armed forces to immediately stop attacks on Muslim countries because Eid al-Fitr is approaching soon. For whatever reason, attacks against fellow Muslim countries are a big mistake and must be stopped," said the Sultan.
As the world's most populous Muslim nation, Sultan said, Indonesia is deeply concerned by the current one-sided military actions against friendly countries on the Arabian Peninsula. Such attacks must not continue, as both Iran and the Arab countries it attacks are friends of Indonesia; and Indonesia, as a peace-loving nation, does not want to see their hostility continue.
"The Indonesian people deeply empathize with the victims in Iran and also in the countries targeted by its attacks. However, Indonesia remains committed to maintaining a consistent, independent and active foreign policy stance and will not interfere in the conflicts currently raging in West Asia," he stressed.
Furthermore, Sultan, as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Malay World Islamic World (DMDI), encouraged increased cooperation and solidarity among fellow OIC member countries, because the ongoing war has harmed the economies of many countries, including OIC member countries.
"Iran and Arab countries remain bound by the OIC cooperation format, which aims to strengthen bonds of brotherhood among fellow Muslim nations and uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of OIC countries," he concluded.
Sultan also encouraged OIC member states to hold an emergency meeting at the head of state level to find the best solution to stop war and hostilities in the West Asia region.
"The OIC needs to take strategic steps to ensure unity among Muslim countries and overcome differences between them, in accordance with the message of the 2016 Jakarta Declaration," Sultan stressed. [*]
