West Papua, dpd.go.id - The regional government of Papua Province has expressed its readiness to host the Regional Language Congress, which is planned to take place next August.

The organizing committee hopes that this national-scale event can be attended in person by the relevant Ministers and President Prabowo Subianto to officially open the event.

This was conveyed by the Chairperson of Committee III of the DPD RI, Filep Wamafma, while leading a working meeting with the Indonesian Ministry of Culture at the DPD RI Building, Jakarta.

"The committee hopes that the Minister and the President will be present to open the Regional Language Congress in Papua. This is an important opportunity to demonstrate the government's presence and full support for the preservation of regional languages ​​throughout Indonesia," said Filep.

According to him, this congress is an important agenda to strengthen the government's commitment to preserving regional languages ​​throughout Indonesia.

This permanent lecturer at STIH Manokwari also assessed that this activity has the potential to become a historical milestone because it is the first time that Indonesia is holding a regional language congress on a national scale.

"This congress is not merely a ceremonial event, but an important milestone in preserving the nation's identity and cultural richness through regional languages," Filep said before the Minister and Deputy Minister.

The meeting also discussed plans for arts and cultural events within the Melanesian community. As part of the Melanesian region, Papua is considered to have a strategic role in strengthening cultural ties, both between Indonesian provinces and with countries in the Pacific region.

He said the Biak Numfor Regency Government, Papua Province, has a desire to hold a Melanesian arts and culture event involving participants from within and outside the country.

"The Biak Numfor Regency Government is ready to host a Melanesian cultural event involving participants from within and outside the country," he explained.

This activity is expected to become a forum for cultural exchange while strengthening Indonesia's identity as a country with unique cultural diversity.

"We are also pushing for Melanesian arts and cultural events to be included in the official government calendar, so that they can be implemented sustainably and have a broad impact, including at the international level," Filep explained.

"This is an opportunity to show the world that Indonesia has a rich and diverse culture, especially in the Melanesian region," concluded Filep.
