dpd.go.id Jakarta, March 19 - As Eid al-Fitr 1447 H approaches, public mobility is expected to increase significantly, in line with the deeply rooted tradition of returning home for Eid. Responding to this, Mirah Midadan Fahmid, a member of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), expressed serious concern for the readiness of the transportation sector and the safety of travelers throughout the country.

"I emphasize that the government, together with all stakeholders, must ensure that the transportation system—land, sea, and air—is in optimal condition," said Senator Mirah.

He believes that the annual surge in passengers leading up to Eid al-Fitr is not only a matter of capacity, but also concerns aspects of safety, comfort, and affordability of services for the public.

"The homecoming movement is not just a mass movement, but also a social tradition with high emotional value. Therefore, the government must be present to ensure that people can travel safely and responsibly," said Senator Mirah.

He further emphasized the importance of monitoring the roadworthiness of transportation fleets. He stated that thorough inspections of public vehicles must be conducted regularly to minimize the risk of accidents.

"I ask the local government and stakeholders to closely monitor the quality of road infrastructure, including repairs to areas prone to congestion and accidents, which are often major obstacles during the homecoming traffic," the Committee II member emphasized.

Senator Mirah also emphasized the need for synergy between the central government, regional governments, and transportation operators to effectively manage the homecoming flow. Good coordination is considered key to reducing congestion and ensuring smooth passenger distribution.

"There should be improvements in the accuracy and ease of access to homecoming information for the public, so travelers can better plan their trips," she added.

In addition to technical aspects, Senator Mirah also highlighted the protection of vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. She requested that adequate special facilities be provided at terminals, stations, ports, and airports to ensure their comfort and safety during their travels.

On the other hand, he also appealed to the public to play an active role in maintaining safety during the homecoming trip.

"Travelers returning home are expected to always comply with traffic regulations, make good use of official transportation services, and ensure drivers maintain their physical fitness," she said.

Concluding her statement, Senator Mirah expressed her hope that all parties would use the Eid al-Fitr holiday as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and social awareness, including ensuring the smooth and safe flow of homecoming travelers.

She emphasized that the success of organizing a safe and orderly homecoming is a reflection of the state's readiness to serve the needs of its people.

"The safety of travelers is our top priority. With good cooperation, we can ensure a smooth and safe homecoming journey for everyone," she concluded.*
