Tangerang, dpd.go.id – A number of issues long felt by online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers were presented directly to Banten DPD RI Senator Abdi Sumaithi during an aspiration-gathering event with the Tangerang Regency United Online Ojek Forum (FORBETA) in Panongan District on Thursday (10/15/2026). The meeting served as a space for drivers to express the challenges they face on the ground, ranging from income concerns to workplace protections.
Chairperson of FORBETA Tangerang Regency, Bang Saimin, stated that online drivers are currently facing various pressures in carrying out their work. According to him, steadily rising operational costs are not always accompanied by adequate earnings. This situation is felt even more acutely as drivers must personally bear fuel costs, vehicle maintenance, and the risk of accidents while on the road. “We conveyed the conditions truly experienced by our fellow drivers in the field. Earnings must account for increasingly high operational expenses. We hope for attention and policies that can deliver a sense of fairness for online motorcycle taxi drivers,” said Bang Saimin.
He also expressed hope that the input delivered during the meeting would not end up as mere session notes. FORBETA urged that driver issues be championed at the central government level, particularly regarding fare certainty, application fee transparency, as well as social protection and driver safety. For drivers, certainty on these matters is vital because ride-hailing services have become a primary source of income for many families.
Abdi Sumaithi affirmed that he would bring these aspirations to Senayan to advocate for them. He noted that the growth of the digital economy must go hand in hand with protections for the people who form a crucial part of its ecosystem. Therefore, issues surrounding fair tariffs and platform commission cuts, clear partnership relationships, and access to social security and accident insurance will be key focal points.
According to Abdi, listening directly to the public is an essential responsibility of his role as a Banten Senator. He emphasized that on-the-ground issues need to be factored into both the drafting and evaluation of national policy, ensuring that resulting regulations consider not only industry interests and technological progress, but also the real conditions of the workers within the system.
